7 Fun Ways to Use Coffee Grounds for Eye Bags!

Are puffy eye bags and dark circles making you look like a tired raccoon? Trust me, I know the struggle.

But, I found a natural DIY solution that’s cheap and it works!

Coffee grounds have a lot of caffeine, which helps reduce fluid build up under the eyes and helps constrict the blood vessels to temporarily reduce discoloration (bye-bye dark circles!) 1

And, with a little creativity, you can whip up some amazing DIY skin care recipes at home (just like my sugar face scrub and exotic Korean face scrubs) that can also help firm and tighten the skin.

Let’s dive into seven fabulous homemade coffee masks for dark circles and puffy under eyes!


Coffee for Under Eye Bags: Best Tips

1. Place grounds in the refrigerator for 10 minutes. The cold will help reduce puffiness.

2. If using dehydrated powered coffee, add water to make a paste first, then place in refrigerator.

3. Fresh ground coffee is the best choice. If you’re using leftover coffee grounds, make sure it’s not hot to avoid burns.

Eye Mask Coffee Ground Recipes

1. Basic coffee grounds eye mask

  • Ingredients: 1 tablespoon coffee grounds, 1/2 teaspoon water.
  • Benefits: Reduce puffiness and refresh the skin with the caffeine in coffee, which helps improve blood circulation, decrease swelling, and lower fluid buildup under your eyes.

The basic mask is my least favorite, it feels too thin and runny. But, it works, especially if you’re in a hurry. You can add oil instead of water to make it thicker.

For added anti-aging benefits, customize your coffee ground eye mask with these next six ingredients!

2. Honey for hydration

Tablespoon of honey near coffee beans.
  • Ingredients: 1 tablespoon coffee grounds, 1 teaspoon honey.
  • Benefits: Hydrate and soothe the skin with honey’s natural humectant properties, which help retain moisture.

Add a drop of water to the coffee before adding the honey. It will mix easier that way.

3. Yogurt to exfoliate

A tablespoon of yogurt on top of coffee beans.
  • Ingredients: 1 tablespoon coffee grounds, 2 teaspoon yogurt.
  • Benefits: Exfoliate and brighten the skin with yogurt’s lactic acid, which gently exfoliates and nourishes.

4. Egg whites for firming

Whisked eye whites for eye mask.
  • Ingredients: 3 tablespoon coffee grounds, 1 egg white.
  • Benefits: Tighten and firm the skin with egg whites’ skin-tightening properties.

Separate the egg white and whisk in a bowl. Then add the coffee grounds and mix thoroughly. You have more than you need for the eye area. But, you can store it in a airtight container and use in a few days.

OR, consider applying the whole mixture all over your face. Trust me, you’ll love the results.

5. Aloe Vera Gel

  • Ingredients: 1 tablespoon coffee grounds, 1 tablespoon aloe vera gel.
  • Benefits: Soothe and hydrate the skin with aloe vera’s anti-inflammatory properties.

Either cut and squeeze the gel from an aloe plant or pour it from a jar. If needed, add a drop of water to help it mix more easily.

6. Vitamin E Oil

You can use vitamin E oil from a bottle or better yet squeeze a vitamin E oil soft gel into a bowl. 

  • Ingredients: 1 tablespoon coffee grounds, 2-3 drops vitamin E oil or 2-3 squeezed soft gels.
  • Benefits: Nourish and protect the skin with vitamin E oil’s powerful antioxidant properties.

7. Milk & Coffee Eye Mask

A tablespoon of milk over a bowl of coffee grounds.

Use real cow’s milk because it naturally contains lactic acid due to lactose fermentation. Almond and soy milk generally does not, unless it is added during the manufacturing process.

Lactic acid is important because it helps with collagen building and cell turnover.

  • Ingredients: 1 tablespoon coffee grounds, 1 tablespoon milk.
  • Benefits: Gently exfoliate and brighten the skin with milk’s lactic acid and vitamins.

How to Mix and Apply

1. Combine the coffee grounds with the additional ingredient in each recipe to form a smooth paste. Play with the amount until you get the consistency you want.

2. Gently apply the mixture under your eyes.

3. Leave the mask on for 10-15 minutes.

4. Rinse off with warm water.
